Immersive Labs is proud to announce that our developer manager, Jaycee Cheong went from tech ambassador to role model last night (08 May 2019), by being included on Makers’ Women in Software Powerlist.
The ceremony, hosted by tech community Level 39, recognised 30 highly-diverse women who have each had a hand in bringing about real change in the software industry within the past decade. Decisions were based on professional growth, influence on the industry and innovation in their work.
Efforts to recognise these inspirational women are rooted in the hope that the next generation of British women will be inspired to enter our industry by being given role models to look up to.
Jaycee joined Immersive Labs in March 2018. Since then she has grown from individual contributor to manager. Without a doubt, it is Jaycee’s ambition and determination that has paved her way to success — and while we’re not at all surprised that she made this list, we are excited that other young women in tech have such an incredible human to serve as inspiration.
Diversity is one of the biggest challenges faced in the technology sector, with less than a quarter of the UK’s technical professionals being women. The Guardian reported in 2018 that less than 9% of senior leaders in tech are from a minority background and only 12.6% of board members in the technological sector are women.
Jaycee’s work at Immersive Labs marks a huge contribution to the delivery of our practical and engaging cyber security skills platform. However, it is her passion for the tech community that has seen her embrace her own self-development. Giving back to the tech community, be it through informal talks, coaching or mentoring is what really motivates Jaycee. In her own words, ‘happy teams make great working professionals, who in turn make excellent products.’
On behalf of the entire Immersive Labs family, we would like to express our pride and publicly thank Jaycee for all she does; not just for us but for the wider community too. We are sure this is only one of many more awards coming her way!
